Panterfang could hear whisperings as he led Sunstorm closer towards the pool. His pelt prickled, and unease washed over him like a tidal wave. He wasn't ready to see his mate and daughter as starclan cats. He wasn't ready to accept that they were truly part of another world now. His paws abruptly stopped moving at the thought. He was surprised at his own jolting stop and turned towards Sunstorm. "Sorry." he muttered as he started walking again. He had never been so close to the clan ancestors before. He had heard about them visiting Trueeyes in his dreams, and in the dreams of medicine cats, but the only cat he had ever seen in his dreams was his dead brother, Twilight. The large black tom sighed and continued slowly walking up the worn stone path that led down to the pool.

"It's... it's all right," Sunstorm answered. She took the moment to draw a breath in the attempt to steady herself. She padded forwards again, her steps a bit unsteady, but filled with purpose. She felt her paws slip into the marks left by the Clan cats before her, and even the ones who had come long before the Clans. Her ears flicked at the faint whisperings, and for a moment, anxiety battered her chest, though she quickly recovered, fast enough that it wouldn't alert Pantherfang.
As they reached the top of the slope, she gazed into the pool, the stars reflected in the calm water. She hadn't been her since she had been an apprentice, so long ago. She sighed, and glanced at Pantherfang. Her eyes held the trust that he would keep her safe while she received her nine lives. She then bent her head, and lapped up some of the water. It tasted of the wild, starlit night. She then crouched, tucking her paws under her chest, waiting for the sleep StarClan would give.

Pantherfang took several steps backward. He had only followed Sunstorm to the top of the ridge and felt that it would be a sacriledge to go any farther. He nodded at the she-cat and sat sentinel as she lapped the water. He twitched his ears as he watched how quickly her breathing slowed and she was swept into the skies of Starclan. Nothing shall harm her... he promised himself as he shifted his weight under his paws and continued to gaze out at the land around them.

Sunstorm held her breath, the chill of the Moonpool resonating throughout her small body, until it had spread, encompassing her entire form. She felt something tickle at her ear, almost a whisper, telling her to open her eyes. As her golden orbs slowly revealed themselves, she gasped at the radical change in environment. She was now at the Island in the Lake, and the warm scents of Greenleaf floated around her, melting away the chill in her body.
She gazed up at Silverpelt, and with a sharp exhale she realized that the stars were descending from the sky. The cats of StarClan gathered around her, their pelts shimmering as though intertwined with stardust.
Her heart was wracked by grief as she recognized the cats closest to her.
Foxpaw,,, Rainfeather........ Jaystar.
She was too awestruck to say anything, and could only crouch before the silver-pelted cats around her.
"Welcome, Sunstorm. Are you ready to receive your nine lives?" Every cat was speaking, each holding the tone of those she knew, and yet, it was still unified and distinct in its own.
"Yes, I'm ready," Sunstorm replied, trying to sound certain.

Rainfeather walked forward first. Her eyes seemed hungry for information, but she knew that she had a duty to do and it would be out of place for her to be asking Sunstorm any questions after the long journey. "With this life, I give you the pleasures and the sorrows of motherhood. May you watch over and love your clan as a mother loves her own kits." she whispered, pressing her forehead against Sunstorm's and letting the life pass through her.
Sparrowpaw bounded up next. Her destiny and responsibilities in the forest seemed to have aged her, but in the style of a characteristic young cat, she blurted out. "You know, my dad would make a great deputy!" She flattened her ears as crouched as she heard her mother, Rainfeather, let out a warning hiss behind her. She leaned close to Sunstorm and whispered. "They seem to want to rush me, but I want you to stay and talk to us!" she mewed with a giggle. She stepped back and raised her voice. "With this life, I give you the understanding of responsibilities. Let the words of Starclan and the responsibilities of leading Windclan not be a burden to you, but something that you always meet with courage." Sparrowpaw touched noses with Sunstorm. Let him know that we're ok she thought to the fiery pelted she-cat. Rainfeather smiled proudly in the line of waiting cats.

Sunstorm shuddered as both lives passed thorugh her, and she felt all the life's experiences these two cats had to offer her. She nodded gravely at Sparrowpaw's words.
"He would. But I'm not sure... if he wants to be deputy," she answered honestly. Her eyes widened as Cloudrain stepped up to her, her black and white pelt sleek and clean and filled with stardust. She had the love of a mother in her eyes. It was as though she had truly kitted Sunstorm herself.
"My darling, I'm so proud of you," she mewed softly, touching her nose to Sunstorm's forehead.
"With this life I give you guidance. Use it so that you may see your Clan through everything, as I have always watched over you." Sunstorm shuddered as Cloudrain's life swept through her. It was warm and loving as she had imagined it to be.
Icetail then stepped forward, and Sunstorm dipped her head to the former deputy.
"You have done so much more for this Clan than I ever could," he whispered, and rested his muzzle on her head.
"A leader's life holds much sacrifice. So, with this life I give you conviction, so that you may see yourself through the deepest of despair."
Robinflight approached next, his ginger chest swelling with pride. "It has been too long, my fiery apprentice," he purred. He then gently touched his nose to Sunstorm's head.
"With this life, I give you wisdom. Use it well to teach the young the ancient ways of the Clan."
Her guard let down by Cloudrain's gentleness, she was unprepared for the harsh life of a seasoned warrior. She could not pull herself away from Robinflight, and could only tremble as she felt the intensity of the life he had lived. But it ended with a sense of dignity and fufillment, with only the regret that he had not lived to see Sunstorm become deputy. Panting, Sunstorm swallowed hard as Foxpaw came forth, her head swimming with grief.
"Remember, Sunstorm, that it takes more courage to live for your Clan than to die for it. And so, I will give that courage to you with this life. Use it well to inspire your Clan in times of danger," he said, and touched his nose to her head. She could not steel herself against his life, no matter how brief, for it ended with blood and pain.
Featherwind, her old littermate, appeared. Though not related by blood, they shared the bond of sisterhood. Featherwind had died couragesly fighting to save a kit from a falcon that had swept down into the camp.
"With this life I give you fury. It is a powerful tool to fill you with the strength of the Clans of old. Use it well to defend your Clan, but be sure you only direct it at your enemies, for it can bring great grief as well."
((Okay, so that leaves Moonpaw and Jaystar.))

Moonpaw stepped forward next, Pantherfang's very first apprentice. He had died not too long before he would have become a warrior, and was bigger than the other apprentices that had come before him. He would have been a very desirable warrior, his muscles showing through his silvery white coat. "When I first became apprenticed, I helped Russettail and Pantherfang fight off a badger." he grinned. "Pantherfang was furious!" he laughed. "They always said that my greatest trait when I became a warrior would be my confidence in my own abilities- because of it, I survived many situations other cats may not have. I want to give you that confidence, Sunstorm. Others will believe in you, but you need to believe in yourself to have the strength you need to lead." he meowed, touching noses with the she-cat.

"You would have been a great warrior, Moonpaw. I would have named you Moonfire," she said, even though Moonpaw would have become a warrior under Jaystar's rule. Jaystar... she scanned the group of cats quickly, but she still wasn't prepared for the thrum of grief that swept through her when her eyes met his.
Was she ready to accept the final life she knew he would give her? She wasn't sure, and knew the uncertainty shown through her face as she gazed at him. No matter if he had lived to die later, she would always have been sorry he would have to die for her to become leader.
She wanted to say something, anything, but the words died before she even opened her mouth.
((You're playing Jaystar, right?))

Jaystar slowly stepped forward, unsure of what to expect. It seemed as though the both of them had changed so much since his death, and it hadn't even been over a day. Dare he show the sadness that he felt? No. I must be strong for her. he thought with determination, but he could feel the muscles in his legs tremble as he walked closer to her. It pained him beyond feeling that he could get so close to her just now, but that they would still be total separate. "Sunstorm" he meowed softly.

Sunstorm could barely meet his gaze. She swallowed hard, letting her breath out in a heavy exhale before raising her eyes again. But still, the tremor of anxiety, the hollow ache in her chest, still the returned once she took him in.
"Jaystar," she breathed. He was so much stronger than her, for all her emotions played upon her face. All the grief and love, plain as day, as visible as Silverpelt on a clear night.
"I'm so sorry," she whispered, tears beginning to fall from her face, scattering the gentle wisps of stardust that had begun to gather around like mist.

"Sunstorm" he cried out, his voice showing his agony. He made out like he was going to embrace her, but winced and took a painful step back to where he stood. He was made of stardust now, and could only give her so much comfort for all the pain it would bring her. "You must do what I could not." He said bravely, trying to control the trembling in his voice. "Windclan has suffered many losses over time...we cannot fall." He leaned in closer to her then. "I will always be with you. I will never stop watching over you...but your duty is to the living now." he whispered, his voice clearly shaking now. Jaystar felt the pain of separation from his clan and the one he loved more strongly than he could stand.

Sunstorm tried to choke back her sorrow, but all emotion was laid plain in her gold eyes. "I... I will do my best, Jaystar. For the sake of the Clan... I will... try," her voice too, trembled with the weight of her emotion. The one she loved stood before her, but even though they were so close they could almost touch, Sunstorm had to remind herself that this was a dream. He was someplace she couldn't reach... and even though she knew they would meet again... it still pained her, because if she did what she had to do, that day would probably be far off.
"Jaystar... I'm sorry things had to work out this way... but... I'm glad it's you I recieve my ninth life from..." she managed to say, and though her gaze was still tinged with sadness, there was endless warmth and love there, too. She straightened herself, ready to recieve her last life and become the leader of WindClan.

Jaystar simply nodded, too full of emotion and pain to speak. His eyes brimmed with love for her, and he rubbed his face against hers before touching his forehead to hers to give her the final life she needed to guide Windclan. "A new marked will come to replace the one we have lost. Keep Phoenixpaw safe." He said to her urgently. "Lostclan has not won yet. I believe in you."

Sunstorm trembled as her final life joined with her, feeling all of Jaystar's experiences up until his last moments. The combination of all the lives swelled within her until she thought she would burst, but eventually, it pulled away gently, leaving her both battered, and filled with a strange sense of calm.
"LostClan will rue the day they settled here. This is our home, and I swear by these warrior ancesters, though they may not be mine by blood, that I will use all the strength you have given me to defeat them," she meowed, and a small murmur began among the cats present, waiting for Jaystar to finish the ceremony.
