Starpaw glanced around, wondering if they needed anything else. The weather was frigid out, and they needed to return before the weather began to affect their lucky finds. Breifly her thoughts flitted to her closet living realative, Creamcloud, and she wondered how her mother's younger sister was getting along. "Come on Inkpaw, i think we have plenty. Let's get back."

Inkpaw nodded, but did not speak, his mouth full of precious herbs. He set them down, bending his head over a pool of melted ice, intending to drink. He caught his reflection, his gaze resting on his ruined eye. Only a while ago he could've looked into the water and seen a handsome young apprentice tom, filled with promise, despite the disadvantage of his heritage. Now, that face was different. The roundess in his cheeks had rounded away, leaving them angular and adult looking. His single gold eye had darkened, and relfected a sort of bitterness than frightened him inwardly. Then, the water darkened, as though it were deepening, appearing as though ink had spilled into it, covering the half of his face that was forever mutilated, lingering for a moment, and then swallowing his relfection completely. Then the ink receded, becoming the outline of a cat, who eyes were pale gold, with flecks of red.
Midnight. He thought to himself, recognizing the tom's face.
You two are more alike than either of you knows... He heard a strange voice in his head. He looked up, as though expecting to see another cat. A shiver ran down his spine. He gazed into the water again, only to see that the pool again only showed his reflection. Shaken, he bent his head, and lapped up some of the chilly water. He shook his head, trying to clear it.

Starpaw paused, a shiver running through the air that felt like more than just the wind. Her eyes darted to Inkpaw, who was shaking his head. "Inkpaw?" she questioned, and moved to sit beside him. "Are you alright?"

Inkpaw opened his mouth to reply, then stopped, suddenly realizing he wasn't sure what to tell her. He wasn't sure if he had been contacted by StarClan just now, or if he was simply hallucinating. But the words of that strange voice still rang in his ears. What made him and Midnight alike? He could scarcely imagine any kind of similarity that they shared.
"It's nothing. Just... my reflection. It startled me," he said suddenly. It wasn't a lie. But it hadn't been exactly that that had truly sent a shiver down his spine.

Starpaw cocked her head to one side, but decided not to press the matter. "Ok," she meowed softly. "wel, let's go back to cmap. I tlooks like it's getting a bit dark. I wonder how long we've been out here.." Her voice trailed off as she stared at the sunlight filtering through the trees, distracted by the simple beauty of the forest. She couldn't let it fall to ruin, and be under Jag's control. Shaking herself, she flicked her tail at Inkpaw. "You coming?"

Inkpaw started when Starpaw asked if he was coming, still distracted by his disturbing... whatever that was. He wasn't sure what to call it. A vision? A hallucination? "Y-yeah," he replied hastily.
Thoughts still completely focused on what had just seen, he picked up his bundle of herbs and followed after her. Even pre-occupied, he was still careful about where he puts his paws. Not being able to judge distance well was a dangerous setback.

Keeping a catious eye on him lest he needed her to help guide, Starpaw wove her way between the trees at a leisurely pace, her eyes watching to avoid hazards that might bother the partially blinded cat.
