Silvervolt nodded. "You have more than proven yourself to be a great warrior, Rockpaw. You just need your name." he said in a slightly strained voice as he stood up and stretched. "It is difficult with Lostclan when we stick by our code while they are completely reckless. But, it is also their downfall. No cats that have ever attacked our clans have had Starclan on their side, and the nine lives they bring out leaders." he commented seriously. "Remember that always, Rockpaw. We will never lose Littlewing or Otterpaw while there is a sky above us. I shudder to think of trying to survive and function as a clan without the guidance of our ancestors."

Creamcloud padded to the river, humming to herself a soft tune her mother had taught her, her sisters, and Rosemoon before her. It was such a sweet little song, she loved it. Then she froze. She could have sworn that she'd just heard Rockpaw's voice. That was silly. he was back in camp resting, there was no way- her ears pricked as Silvervolt responded, and then she snarled and ran foreward, pushing off the rocks to hurry foreward. She spotted the two cats ahead on the bank and she darted foreward, poausing a tail length away. Her pelt bristled in fury. he was out here, he was injuired, and an expierienced warrior brings him out hunting? Wickedstar would here of this. Her eyes blazed with an icy blue fury. "just what do you think you're doing?" The venom in her voice pierced the air. She stood, tense, angry, and it almost seemed like everything had dropped a few degrees. The frigid tone in her voice was suprising, espeically to her. Then again, she'd never been angry before. Not like this.

Rockpaw felt his blood turn to ice at the ice in Creamcloud's tone. But he soon turned hot. Her voice also stung him, making him angry.
"You're acting like I'm trying to off myself, Creamcloud," he tried to reason, fighting back the anger that was making his pelt bristle slightly. "You're acting like this is the day after the battle. I've been bed-ridden for a quarter moon. LostClan isn't going to sit around and wait for me to get better," his neck hair was beginning to rise, and his eyes were turning brighter green. While this was a valid view point, he was hiding the main reason. A lump began to form in his throat as it passed through his mind.
"If I stay there... in camp... there's nothing to take my mind off..." he swallowed agian, his throat too tight to form words. His eyes widened with the fear and despair that was threatening to overwhelm him now. And it was only when the forest began to shake did he realize he was trembling. He lowered his head to stare at his shaking paws, the fish now forgotten.

Creamcloud's tone and features softened. "You still aren't well Rockpaw. if you want to come out for air and to enjoy the water that's fine but I'm forbidding you to hunt or run, not til I'm certain that shoulder of yours is okay. I know you want to froget but sometimes you must bear the pain of the memories." In her mind Creamcloud decided to ask Starclan to speak to the young apprentice, hopefully to ease Rockpaw's mind.

He couldn't even bear to argue with her. The score down his shoulder was the worst of his wounds, and for the first two nights after he was wounded, any movement had sent spasms of agony running through his body. He shuddered as he remembered thoughts about wishing he could die so that pain would cease. If it hadn't been for StarClan, he would have given up. But the loss of Otterpaw was worse than that. It felt like he had died. It would take him a long time to truly return to his old self, to fill that aching void in his heart where love should have been.
And even Creamcloud's sympathy was painful to him. Her reminders that he couldn't run from his grief cut through him like Jag's claws had. For though he knew he must face it in the end, he couldn’t find the median between nothing and everything- the freezing numbness and the crushing agony.
“I’m… sorry Creamcloud. I just… wanted to feel useful…” he whispered. He stood up, willing the trembling in his paws to stop. The half-eaten fish, and the mouse he had caught before, were forgotten now.

Silvervolt leapt to his paws with a snarl. He padded over to Creamcloud, his fur much more fluffed out than Rockpaw. He lowered his voice to a dangerous whispering hiss, so only the medicine cat could hear. "His grief will kill him before his wounds do. His sore muscles need to be stretched, and there's few enough of us to hunt in Riverclan as it is. Do you not trust my judgement or supervision? Do you not trust my experience in what he's going through?" he asked, the hostility in his voice turning into a more defensive tone.

Creamcloud was suprised. Silvervolt was being very disrespectful considering, but then she realized he was upset and she wasn't very new in her standing. Feeling slightly loose with her anger, she tried to reign it in and answered in a tight, barely controled voice. "That has nothing to do with Rockpaw. I don't want him damaging the tissues of the muscle again, yes he needs to stretch it but it also needs to heal properly. If he tears it again and it sets wrong it may cripple him. You may be good at supervision Silvervolt, and I understand you know losses, but you aren't a medicine Cat, and you shouldn't make judgements for one." Her anger flared in her last sentence and her eyes glittered with anger. She was only doing what was best for Rockpaw, but she knew she needed to calm down before her anger got out of hand. Sighing, she looked at her patient, and her friend. "It's not safe for him to be leaving without my knowing, and not to engage in any activities that are too dangerous. Feeding the cln is important, but so is Rockpaw healing properly. if you'd like to take him out and comfort him with this, at least ask me before you kidnap my patient." Then she beckoned to Rockpaw. "I want to take a look at that shoulder of yours Rockpaw. After if you're still feeling up to it you can stay out here with Silvervolt by the water. Okay?" Her eyes flickered between the two toms, waiting to see if they'd try to argue or listen to sense.

Rockpaw still stared at his paws, not making eye contact with either of the cats. He was ashamed of his recklessness. "Okay. But... don't blame Silvervolt for this. He didn't kidnap me. He offered to come with me," Rockpaw defended the warrior. He rolled his shoulders back, and realized, that, while it wasn't bleeding at all, it was sore now. But his heart was bleeding, drowning in a sea of grief.

She shook her head. "I won't blame anyone Rockpaw. Just next time you want to leave camp don't sneak off, you're not that well." Creamcloud murmured softly while she examined his shoulder, her mind elsewhere, on the days when they were just kits, tumbling together in the nursery. She remembered getting tangled in the brambles of the protective walls on purpose, just so she could go to the medicine den and be treated by Emeraldeye. A lonesome sigh escaped her and she focused on the wound, trying to block out the past. Everything was so painful these days, all this loss and the burdons of it. Satisfied his shoulder was alright, she stepped back then asked, "If the pain is bothering you I can fetch some poppy seeds from camp?"

Silvervolt listened, still a bit tense. He narrowed his eyes at the word "kidnap", but Rockpaw answered before he got a chance too. Sensing what may have caused some of Creamcloud's defensiveness, he added, "I have no qualms with your capabilities or judgement. You learned from the best." he curled his tail around his paws, easing the anger within himself. He usually didn't mind when cats scolded apprentices or kits, but for some reason, it seemed wrong for it to be done to Rockpaw, especially since he chosen for some special thing, and was right on the brink of becoming a warrior. Creamcloud did trust him to look after Rockpaw, didn't she? He flicked his tail in irritation at the thought that she might not.

Creamcloud's pelt lay flat after the arguing tension passed, and felt relief that no one was against the descision. But at Silvervolt's last remark she felt another twinge in her heart of loss, and hoped she could talk to Emeraldeye soon. She missed her mentor, he'd taught her so much in such short time. Even though she'd known his time to pass was comign she'd been caught off guard by the brutal attack from Drowningspirit, her own clanmate. Her heart blazed with anger, and the urge for revenge stung through her, then quickly ebbed. She wouldn't become like those traitorous cats, she was loyal to riverclan, and always would do her best to bring peace, not break it. Looking at the river, she hummed her mother's tune, calming herself down as she did. The soft song floated into the air and she was momentarily lost in it's sweet melody she herself was singing. "Follow the sunrise into the moon, Follow the sunrise home..."

Rockpaw's eyes flashed with sadness when Emeraldeye was mentioned. He remembered his first hunt. He had fallen into the river trying to catch his first fish. But when he had been corrected on his technique, he had taken his [oversized] catch to Emeraldeye. He shuddered when he thought of the old medicine cat's end, and the name of the traitorous muderer still set his paws trembling with anger and a thrill of fear down his spine. He still hadn't forgiven himself for helping Drowningspirit start a fight with ShadowClan... he had only thought of pleasing the warrior, not knowing, or worrying, about the consequences involved. He was only glad that his stupid wish to be Drowningspirit's apprentice had not come to pass. He was glad to have the teachings of the deputy instead of the one cat who now Rockpaw would likely attack on sight.
He padded over to Creamcloud, brushing his long, soft pelt against her flank, and licked the top of her head affectionately. "I miss him too," he spoke softly. He took in her warm scent, feeling less lost around her, feeling secure in the brother/sister bond between them. To him it was no more than that, and he was unaware of how much his love toward her set her heart aching, simply because it wasn't the kind of love Creamcloud herself wanted, or could have.

Creamcloud winced away at first, then calmed and returned the affection in a sibling fondness, resting her cheek agiainst his. then she pulled away and meowed, "I came to collect some horsetail, you could help me do that?"

"Sure," Rockpaw nodded. "You might have to tell me what it looks like though... I'm not very good with plants," he amended sheepishly.

Silvervolt glanced around the clearing. "Shall I come with you, or go back to camp? You know Wickedstar has strict orders about you being out without a warrior..." his eyes fixed on Rockpaw for a moment. These cats were much too precious to leave alone, even if Rockpaw wasn't injured.
