"Where there is much light, the shadow is deep"
[/i]Name: Coal
Age: 20 moons
Alliance: Lostclan
Rank: Bodyguard
Gender: male
Picture:
Appearance: He is a sleek black tom with pale yellow eyes that occasionally show flecks of green around the edges. He is finely toned and muscled, as well as equipped with a good set of claws, though he doesn't use them quite as much as Jag. He has a nice scar across his face, but it doesn't do much to dampen his rugged good looks.
Personality: He is particularly witty and charming to the females in the clan, often teasing them with wordplay and sarcastic humor. However, his tongue is quite sharp, and that earned him more than one bat across the face, but when someone got fed up with him, he used claws. Of course, never phased, Coal called it a trophy for his sharp wit. While before he had seemed content to operate in the background, Coal has shown the potential to be a great leader- he has charisma and a vision, and this has made him popular with the Clan.
History: Originally, his mother was a kittypet with a particularly vivacious personality, as well as intelligence to match. She was an outdoor cat, who came inside only to eat and to perhaps charm the master a bit before returning to her wanderings. Her name was Velvet. Well, one day this unpredictable lifestyle would end when she was seduced by a tom who was likewise black like her. He was a rogue who called himself Imp. After a while she became pregnant, and an enraged master abandoned her, and she gave birth to her kits in the forest nearby. Imp was no where to be found, and poor mother Velvet was alone with her pair of kits, one who was white and black, and named Ghost, and the other, all black, who was Coal. Eventually, Velvet turned to Lostclan, a skinny, haunted looking shell of her former self, scraping up barely enough to eat to support Coal, for she had left Ghost behind, who had been the weaker of the siblings, in order to ensure her and Coal's survival. Coal was now old enough to fend for himself, and they were both taken in to Lostclan. However, it wouldn't be long before Velvet mysteriously died. Coal mourned her loss, but did not dare show his weakness before the other toms. He instead used the wit he had inherited from his parents, and used this as a shield to make himself look stronger. Corruption by the evils of Lostclan has made him forget sadness towards the loss of his family, but he still has some kindness left in him, but he typically looks out for number one.
When Ravenclaw's kits were born, Coal's status was that of a warrior, nothing more. He was simply a member of Lostclan, but not a face recognized or truly acknowledged by his leader, Tooth. Although he feined ignorance, he knew of Jag's plan to kill Tooth and take his place as leader of Lostclan. And it would seem, that Jag had Coal in mind for something. When Ravenclaw's sole son, Midnight, was at the age where his training would begin, Coal was slightly surprised(and also privately pleased) that he was chosen to mentor the small black tom. Although Midnight's life was not of the highest value in the eyes of Lostclan due to his mother's blatant treachory, Coal took him under his wing, and turned Midnight into what he is today- One of Jag's bodyguards. Alongside Coal, they are second in command to the clan. Coal seems to be pleased, but inside, he wonders what will happen if Jag dies. He wonders if he has it in him to kill his former apprentice, who has become something of a son to him.
During the Windclan battle, he confronted Sunstorm, who was badly hurt, and exposed the truth about her past. He and Sunstorm shared a father. Making them half-siblings. Coal may seem to think nothing of it, but when it comes down to it, will he be able to kill his own kin?
Coal seems to enjoy watching Sunstorm become angry or distraught, though he has never directly layed a claw on her. He seemed to take great pleasure in taking the nine lives of her mate and leader, Jaystar. When she shouted out that she would never forgive him, he replied stating that he had never asked her to.
Recently a new light has crept into Coal's pale eyes: ambition. A facet of his personality that had before been dormant has been rising to the surface. He wants to lead LostClan. Midnight's recent removal from power may or may not be the catalyst of rebellion... the scent of betrayal, division, and chaos are in the air of the camp.
Roleplay Example: Coal danced expertly through his wooded home, slipped about from bush to bush, shadow to shadow, in his search for prey. Finally, he spotted a bird, a meager little sparrow, attending its eggs. He passed that one up. It was really too scrawny to provide much meat for him or his clan, and besides, eggs meant baby birds, which meant future prey. What crossed his sights next, was a rather plump starling, resting on a low branch. All good things to those who wait, he thought to himself, and crouched, stalking beneath it with fluid grace, his form as flowing as his wit. As soon as he was below the unwary bird, he bunched himself up, and sprang. He stretched his long forearms, spearing the starling with his slightly hooked claws, and bringing the struggling, wounded fowl down to the ground with him. In a swift clamp and twist if his jaws, the bird was dead.
