Firetail paced the clearing, the tip of his flame-colored tail blazing in the sun. The tip of it flicked back in forth in agitation, as though a small ember were rolling through the air. "We can't just allow Lostclan to keep Honeysquirrel's kits!" he yowled. "Those cats belong to Thunderclan, and I say we go and claim them!" he growled. "Who will come with me?" he glanced around the clearing, his eyes blazing.

Spiritstar heard her clanmate's angry yowls and calmly padded out from her den. "What are you suggesting?" She asked Firetail calmly. She certainly wanted the kits back, but getting them was a whole different matter. She knew it was a terrible truth, but she couldn't sacrifice too many warriors to save the kits. She would try though, and wanted to hear any suggestions her clan had.

But he wasn't idly sitting by doing nothing- he was practicing with his limited vision, trying to gauge how far away everyone was from him, learning how to use the features in camp as anchors, simply because those things never moved, so he could measure distance with them.
He was distracted from this, however, when he heard his mentor's plea for aid, his single eye picking out the familiar white and blazing orange of Firetail's coat, and the fierce look in his eyes. A look Inkpaw hadn't seen in a while. He blinked slowly, feeling Firetail's ferocity touch his heart, inspiring him. He wanted those kits back.
He leaped down from rock to rock with more confidence than usual and came to stand beside Firetail.
"I would go with you," he said, hoping that he wouldn't be immediately shot down.

The young warrior turned to his apprentice and nodded at him, proud of his fighting spirit. The repercussions of Inkpaw's injuries weighed like a stone in his stomach. He should have been able to protect his apprentice during the battle.
Firetail sighed and padded closer to his leader, the fierce energy dying down. "Honeysquirrel is so depressed..." he sighed, his ears and tail drooping. "I can hardly even get her to eat. The longer her kits are with Lostclan, the harder it will be for them to ever be normal Thunderclan cats. Lostclan will be training them in their ways...if we wait too long, will they never recognize us as their clanmates? What will happen if we have to face them in battle?" Firetail shook his head. "I don't know what I'm suggesting...but I feel like we have to do something. We at least have to try. Right now we're sending Lostclan a message that they can do whatever they want without consequences." The young warrior's eyes hardened again.

Spiritstar could easily agree with Firetail's words, and she smiled and Inkpaw's determination. He wasn't letting his obstacle overcome his determination. Because she knew how it felt, she could admire him with true understanding. Her loyalty was hopefully no longer in question for her clanmates, but she still had to lead her clan. Whatever they thought of her past, the future was what was truly important. "I agree Firetail, and I think we should get them back. Are there any warriors you recommend to go on this foray?" She asked. She fully intended to go. The deputy was busy, so she decided to lead her clan. She wouldn't sit at home, not while there were kits in danger.

(We're beginning a gathering on the island, so we'll have to prolong the rescue party)
Firetail felt a jolt of surprise at his leader's support. Gingerstar tended to think he was just a hot-headed young warrior and commonly dismissed his suggestions. He thought of what warriors to take. "I guess it depends on whether we want to try to sneak in and get them, or lead an attack party..." he meowed, trying to sound confident. He gazed up at the full moon, realizing it would be time to leave for the gathering soon. "Do you think the other clans are having similar trouble? Would it be wise to ask them for help?" he wondered aloud, hoping not to anger Spiritstar with his suggestion.

He, being one of the chosen cats, thought the other Clans working together was ideal- that was the goal he, Phoenixpaw, and Rockfang had promised to work toward. But... this was ThunderClan's problem. It would severely damage the pride of the Clan to ask for aid in retrieving their own kits.
"These are ThunderClan kits. ThunderClan warriors should rescue them," Moonripple, the silvery tom stated boldly.
"Is this really the time to be clinging to pride? Shouldn't the Clans be working together against LostClan?" Dapplepelt pointed out, her daughters on either side of her. Darkpaw's face was an unreadable mask as usual, but Spottedpaw looked scared. Inkpaw almost had the feeling she wanted to say something but was nervous to speak out.
"Spottedpaw? You look like you want to say something," Inkpaw said, and Spottedpaw jumped.
"I-I just think, well, that, it seems... well, that no one Clan has stood very well against LostClan. Maybe now is the time to start banding together," with each word Spottedpaw's voice grew in confidence. Inkpaw looked surprised, and in fact, Darkpaw did too.

Firetail twitched his ears and sat down. Things were changing. Suddenly, all cats of the clans seemed to have equal importance and one that was greater than before. He felt a surge of unity and a sort of heartfelt intelligence in regards to the decisions the clan was making. Spiritstar was clearly in charge, but she was quickly gaining the respect of her clanmates by showing them that she cared about their opinions. The clan was also presenting them in a way that showed they respected their new leader. Firetail gazed at Spiritstar, truly admiring her as his leader for the first time. Starclan and Gingerstar chose well... he thought, feeling encouraged for the first time in a long, long while.

Spiritstar took in the suggestions with thoughtfulness. "I agree we needn't ask them for help retrieving our own kits," She said, smiling at Moonripple. That much was true, the clan could rescue them on their own. "But perhaps an alliance against Lostclan would aid all the clans. If we had kits taken, it stands to reason that other clans could be facing other captures as well." She pointed out, trying to balance the opinions of Dapplepelt and Spottedpaw. "If we unite against Lostclan to get rid of them once and for all, it would be a goal to help all the clans." Spiritstar figured unless she heard a strong argument against it, she would mention it at the next Gathering. "As for your original question Firetail, if we intend to unite with the other clans, a swift and quiet rescue would be better than an all-out assault." Spiritstar said. "Saving our strength for the bigger battles to come."

The fiery young warrior nodded with a sigh. He saw the sense in her words, though he would love to see Lostclan pay. His heart pounded and his paws itched with eagerness to sneak into the woods and save the missing Thunderclan kits...
Firetail jolted himself back to the present. "Who is going to the gathering, Spiritstar?" he meowed, hoping he would get chosen.

Spiritsong ran the list of cats through her head. "Magicheart, Firetail, Icecrystal, Moonripple, Inkpaw, Spottedpaw and Starpaw." She answered. The deputy and medicine cat went without saying, and she decided to have along most of the warriors that had lent an opinion to this discussion. She was incredibly proud of them all, of her whole clan. She was very happy to be leading them, but did so with modesty and an open mind. "We'll leave son, so please be ready." She said. It was only late afternoon, but the trek around the lake cost them time. That walk got old fast, but Spiritsong was always happy to go to gatherings, even if she was tired the next day.

Firetail filed up behind his leader and shifted weight between his paws, anxious to get going.
Magicheart's golden eyes glowed- she was hoping to see her Windclan daughter, Phoenixpaw, at this gathering.
