Pantherfang flattened his ears slightly, but did not move. He had never been touched by any other she-cat besides Rainfeather. He stood sentinel with Jaystar and Sunstorm by his side. He felt the ache of the absence of Rainfeather then, but it did feel wonderful to have a she-cat by his side. He sighed and laid his head on his paws.
Moontears turned to Whitepaw. "You have some sort of ceremony to make a new leader, yes?" he inquired. He glanced out nervously into the center of camp. What had he walked into? Did Starclan really think he could make a difference by being here?

Whitepaw nodded. "Yes. Tomorrow, Sunstorm must make the journey to the Moonpool. There, she will meet StarClan and will receive her nine lives and her leader name.We will accompany her. Inwardly, her stomach turned in apprehension. She had only been to the Moonpool once before, to be made an apprentice. Now she was going back to participate in a leaders' ceremony?
"Moontears... do your leaders have nine lives like ours?" she asked, purely out of curiosity. She wanted to know more about the culture of the tribe he came from.

Moontears shook his head. "Our leader speaks with our ancestors, but he is really more like a medicine cat that runs the clan. Our leaders have always lived long, but that's probably due to the fact that we have had very few battles, which our leaders don't usually partake in. There was only our tribe on the mountain for a long, long time." he meowed, trying to keep some bitterness out of his voice at the memory of the outside cats that had recently tried to take over the entire tribe territory. "I will accompany Sunstorm, though." he added.
Pantherfang twitched his ears. "I should come too" he whispered to the medicine cats. Moontears twitched slightly, caught offguard by the giant tom's input and eavesdropping. He glanced to Whitepaw, unsure of what to say. "She needs to be safe, no matter what the cost, and so do the both of you. You need at least one warrior with you. These are not normal times for normal traditions, Whitepaw. Safety must come first." he meowed, countering the argument he expected her to make.

"I agree that sometimes we must set tradition aside, but once we reach the edge of the Moonpool, only Moontears and I can follow her," Whitepaw compromised. Only a medicine cat could sit beside the Moonpool with a new leader. She had keep that tradition at least. She hoped that StarClan would at least understand the danger of going alone with LostClan lurking in the shadows.

Pantherfang nodded and sighed. "I worry about her having enough time to grieve...but maybe it's better that she doesn't dwell on it." he mused aloud to the medicine cats.
Moontears felt overwhelmed with empathy for the two warriors, and looked at them with his wide deep blue eyes

((You want Phoenixpaw and Silvervolt to show up now?))
"Soon she will return to at least an echo of her old self. Sunstorm has always put the Clan before herself. She will realize that grief must come later, and taking charge of her Clan must come first..." Whitepaw said, trying to sound confident, but inside, she was unsure.

(yeah, sure)
Pantherfang closed his eyes a moment. Would he put the clan before Rainfeather? To him, Rainfeather was his clan. Rainfeather was his everything. Losing Sparrowpaw would have been at least bareable if she had survived. He let out a long sigh and opened his eyes just to see the camp entrance rustling. His fur bristled and he jumped to his feet. "Who goes there?!" he growled.
Silvervolt carefully ducked through what was left of Windclan's camp entrance. His eyes went wide at the destruction of the camp. There was blood and fur everywhere. His eyes opened wide in horror and pain as he saw the Windclanners surrounding and mourning the dead in the center of camp...of which there were many. "I came on behalf of Riverclan....on behalf of your apprentice...but I see that I am too late..." his wide eyes swept the camp and raised to meet Pantherfang's. "I am so sorry." he said truthfully.
"Jaystar!" Phoenixpaw darted out from underneath the Riverclanner, her pelt looking like a wildfire all fluffed out in stress.
"Phoenixpaw!" Pantherfang ran towards the tiny she-cat and embraced her. "We were so worried!" he looked up gratefully at Silvervolt and gave him a respectful nod before looking down at the apprentice and giving her a comforting lick. "We were afraid we'd lost you..." he meowed softly.
"I went to get help! But I failed to be of any help! Again!" Phoenixpaw wailed miserably.
Silvervolt stood gazing around, feeling horrible. He was too overwhelmed to do anything.

Whitepaw sighed with relief. At least Phoenixpaw was back, and they hadn't lost both of their chosen cats. She looked at Silvervolt. He looked really strong... if only he had been able to get here sooner.
Sunstorm woke when Pantherfang jumped up. Her eyes looked dull. Whitepaw jumped to her side. "Sunstorm..."
"Whitepaw." Sunstorm's voice was small, as though she were far away. "Everything hurts," she said in a hoarse whisper. "Moontears, we should get to treating those wounds," the snow furred apprentice looked at her mentor. Sunstorm had stopped bleeding, but some of the scratches on her shoulders were nasty. She could hardly believe that her own brother, Midnight, had done this. It made her both angry and sad.

"Is there anything....I can do?" Silvervolt offered, still in a daze. Pantherfang stepped back from Sunstorm so that her wounds could be treated. Moontears nodded and ran back to the den to collect antiseptic herbs and cobwebs. "This is going to sting a little....he confessed, beginning to chew some of the herbs into a poultice. Pantherfang stepped closer to Sunstorm. "I'm here if you need me." he offered, placing an enormous black paw next to hers. "Feel free to dig in if necessary." he added with a slight smile. "Where's dad? Is he ok?" Phoenixpaw demanded in worry. "Russettail is fine." Pantherfang replied to the young she-cat, still keeping her close to him.

Whitepaw set to work as Moontears chewed up the herbs. She began to lick Sunstorm's wounds clean, trying to be gentle with her rasping tongue. Sunstorm winced, but the pattern presented itself, and began to feel better as she focused on the gentle tug. She smiled at Pantherfang, but declined his offer. After this past quarter moon, she could handle the sting of herbs.
Sunstorm looked over at Silvervolt. "You have done enough by keeping this apprentice safe... and by coming here intending to help us..." even as weak as she looked, her eyes were strong, and held gratitude towards the RiverClan warrior.
"We'll probably have to go and get more herbs... especially since leafbare is almost upon us... perhaps you could come with us... we don't have any other fit warriors besides Pantherfang," Whitepaw admitted reluctantly. She didn't want to leave Sunstorm with a warrior she didn't know.

(sorry once again that I was gone for so long...)
Emberfoot sat down, limping from the damage she received in the head of the battle. She had done good, saving the deputy's life, but a brave leader died as well. Ridden with sadness, she began to lick her wounds, waiting for a medicine cat to take a look at her left leg, which was twisted slightly and oozing with blood. She grimaced in pain, dried blood cracking on her ginger fur.
Russettail shook and shuddered. Somehow he had been knocked unconscious near the end of the battle, and had no clue where he was, or more importantly, where his daughter was. "Phoenixpaw?" he yowled softly, his voice cracking as he hoisted himself off the ground. He wasn't hurt, except for a throbbing pain on the back of his head, where he had probably been hit.

"Dad!" Phoenixpaw cried, running away from Pantherfang and towards her father. She burrowed into his familiar and comforting fur and felt safe once again. Pantherfang glanced at the two with a bittersweet sensation. His eyes glazed over in pain and longing, but he couldn't feel more relieved on Russettail's behalf.

It was then that Whitepaw noticed Emberfoot. Her crystal blue eyes went immediately to her wounded leg. She raced towards her den, bringing out more cobwebs and herbs.
"Good, get it nice and clean, Emberfoot," Whitepaw meowed, and began chewing up a simple mixture of herbs. She knew how to dress wounds, at least.

Heartbreaker was then at the enterance of the camp and saw what had happened. She looked around emotionless and waited for silvervolt to come to her. Your gonna get it. She looked at the wounded cats and then at the leader. Got a new leader? you like her to Silvervolt?

Emberfoot sighed with relief as she saw Whitepaw hurry over to her with cobwebs and a bundle of herbs. Her fur, spiked with blood, finally relaxed, her tail still twitching anxiously as spikes of pain lanced up and down her spine. Her right foreleg was starting to tire, and she couldn't wait to get off of her paws in a nice warm den, but she knew that could not happen right away. Sunstorm would have to receive her nine lives, and every cat had to stay vigilant, for LostClan could return. Her eyes started to glaze over in agony as the excruciating pain increased. Her body trembled in the effort to hold still for the young medicine cat apprentice. "Am I... going to lose my it?" she rasped, fearing that her warrior life might be cut short by the battle with LostClan. Anger surged within her, dulling the pain as she thought of the millions of ways she could get revenge should the damage be permanent.
(she can't lose her limb because she's going to be deputy, I just want her to appreciate the position more because she thinks that she might have to retire from being a warrior)
Russettail looked down at his daughter, his eyes surging with pride and love. Phoenixpaw had been through more than most cats her age, and he was content that she was alive and well. He gave her a comforting lick on the ear, whispering softly, "You did good". Russettail just wanted to stand here, capturing the moment forever, but he knew the Clan had been shaken by the loss of their leader, and they needed him and every other cat to help them accept the new leader, Sunstorm. But they could wait just another moment... the ginger tom closed his eyes, unwilling to return to reality.
