Whitepaw gently licked Sunstorm's forehead, purring soothing words in her pure, gentle voice. The Deputy had been in terrible pain for days, unable to move, for her ribs had been broken. Whitepaw nosed a few poppy seeds toward the ginger furred deputy, still mumbling her soothing words. Sunstorm titled her head very slowly, wincing with each breath. She licked up the poppy seeds, and carefully began to chew.
"Don't worry, beloved deputy of Windclan. You will recover. You are the strongest she-cat I've ever seen," Whitepaw said, brushing her tail softly over Sunstorm's ears.
She remembered returning to camp very clearly. Drifting to sleep beside Willowleaf while waiting for her mentor to revive. Silverstream had suddenly entered her still-forming dream, looking frantic and worried.
"You clan has been attacked! Your deputy has been gravely injured! You must hurry Whitepaw! You must go now, gentle apprentice! Starclan will give wing to your paws!"
Silverstream had shouted in the dream, leaving before Whitepaw could act. She had woken, the crystal eyes of Willowleaf upon hers. Both of them had raced for Windclan as fast as their paws could have carried them, Starclan giving wing to their paws, as Silverstream had said. By the time Whitepaw and her mentor had found Sunstorm, the ginger tabby she-cat had passed out again. Only a few days had passed. The deputy was doing better, but was still fading in and out of consciousness, fatigue making her feverish and exhausted.
Whitepaw glanced at the exit of the medicine den, and spotted Jaystar walking past. She turned back to Sunstorm, who was already asleep again, though Whitepaw could tell the seeds hadn't completely kicked in yet, for the deputy's face looked restless. Offly Whitepaw wondered if Jaystar had glanced their way. She knew the leader's concern was not only for his deputy, but for his lover as well.

Pantherfang dragged his feet before him into the Windclan camp, unseeing, unfeeling. He delicately lay the body of his dead daughter, Sparrowpaw, in the center of camp and collapsed, unable to bare his own grief. "Rainfeather....where is she? I'm so sorry, Rainfeather." he wept.
(Is Rainfeather going to be dead too? Ugh, poor Pantherfang!)

Whitepaw emerged from the medicine cat's den, shock crossing her face as Pantherfang appeared. The shock soon turned to horror as she saw Sparrowpaw.
Mother and daughter together again...
"Pantherfang..." Whitepaw looked away. She took a deep breath, and stepped towards him.
"I know this is a terrible time for you. Lostclan has made this personal for many. But, you must hold strong. Your clan needs you more than ever..." she glanced towards the medicine cat's den, where Sunstorm lay.
((dangit. Its so frustrating that so many important characters are dead because Aspen deleted the site. Hopefully the new person will stick around and make more cats. That should help. I also hope everyone else will get more active too. It gets lonely around here. xD))

"Don't you understand, Whitepaw? My daughter was one of the chosen. The forest is doomed. I want to die. I want to join my family." he whispered with little strength or reserve left in his voice. The giant black tom closed his eyes and rested on his daughter's lifeless body, which lay next to Rainfeather's, his mates.
A pained cry echoes outside of the camp. "What was that?" Phoenixpaw meowed, having just gotten set down by her father. "Isn't eveeryone in camp?" she asked, trying to control the slight tremble in her voice.
A tom covered in mud dragged himself into the unfamiliar territory, little pride left within him. If he didn't get help soon, he was going to die. His muscles screamed from exaughstion, and he could feel the wounds smarting from where the eagle had attacked him on his way down the mountain. Was this some cruel trick played by his ancestors, to punish him for leaving his clan and forsaking his duties? "Help me, please." he called out with the last of his strength.

Whitepaw's blue eyes turned cold with fury.
"Don't you dare forsake your clan!" she spat. "Windclan needs you, Pantherfang. How can you turn your back on the living by wanting to join the dead? As long as there is life, there is hope! Starclan taught me that," she sighed as she calmed down.
"Pantherfang. Do you know what happens when a forest is burned down? For a long time, it is uninhabited, inhospitable. There is no life. But eventually, slowly, gradually, the forest begins to grow back, stronger than it ever was. "
"As long as there is the will, life will find a way to survive. As long as we have faith, Starclan will see us through this. But we need you, Pantherfang. You know more about our enemy than any of us. We need you, now more than ever," her voice slowly grew smaller, until it was little more than a whisper.
It wasn't long after she finished when she heard the cry. A cat in pain. Whitepaw's medicine cat instincts pulled her to the entrance of the camp. Then she saw him, the mud-coated, blood soaken, weak looking tom. Why, he looked as though he would keel over right there. Eyes wide, she rushed to him.
"Are you all right?" she asked, breathless, as she began to quickly examine him, sniffing him lightly. But with her limited knowledge it was hard for her to do much. She knew more than a fresh apprentice, but not by much.
"Can you walk? Let me help you get to our camp. I'm not very experienced with herblore yet, but I will do my best," she promised, and offered her side for him to lean on, small as she was.

"You speak with wisdom beyond your years, Whitepaw, but you don't understand. I know more about the enemy than anyone else because I created the enemy. I am the enemy. It is my own fault that my mate and daughter lay dead before me. How can I live with that knowledge...that guilt?" The giant black sighed, turning his head away from the young and hopeful white she-cat in shame.
"I...." the wounded tom sighed, trying to bring himself to his paws but falling from exaughstion. "I came....from the mountains...I brought you a gift but....I lost it when the eagle attacked....I'm so sorry...." he panted.
"Hey! Oh my...who are you?" Phoenixpaw's ember bright pelt appeared blinding to the wary traveler as she stood beside Whitepaw. "Hey, I bet we could help him back together." she meowed, furrowing her brows in determination. Everyone else in camp seemed too hopeless to camp to do anything save breathing, but she wasn't going to give up. It was still her job to save the forest and she'd do all that she could to make sure she did, or die trying.
"You're so kind...maybe my ancestors were right after all..." the muddy tom whispered, gaining strength enough to stand with the aid of the two apprentices.

"It is the duty of any clan cat to help another in need," Whitepaw replied to him as she and Phoenixpaw helped him into camp.
"Pantherfang, go get me some cobwebs, and some marigold," Whitepaw said firmly. Even without a mentor, she knew simple things, and acted like a medicine cat. She listened to his explanation.
"You've come a long way. But you need no gifts for us. It is a medicine cat's job to help injured cats. Although... I'm... only an apprentice," she added shyly.
"Phoenixpaw, can you get some ferns and take them to the medicine den, so I can make a nest for him?" she asked, changing the subject from her obvious lack of experience.

Pantherfang glared at Whitepaw, wondering how she could ask him to do anything but grieve for his lost family. But looking around camp and realizing that there was hardly anyone there capable of fulfilling her request, he sighed and lifted himself from his lying position with great effort. "Do you have any in your den, or shall I fetch it from out of camp?" he asked in an extremely tired voice.
Phoenixpaw nodded and darted ahead of Whitepaw, curious about the newcomer. "I didn't know what to expect in terms of reception when I arrived....I wanted to bring a gift to prove that I could be useful." The mountain cat explained. He listened to the tiny white she-cat give orders with authority. It seemed odd that such a small cat could be the leader of this clan. The tom's beautiful dark blue eyes widened in surprise when she spoke of being an apprentice. "Oh...I don't understand....how can a clan have a To-Be leader?"

"They are in the den," she answered Pantherfang. She froze, tilting her head to the right when she heard Moontears' question. How could he mistake me for a leader...? And what was a To-be...? Then it clicked in her head that a To-be must have been an apprentice where this strange tom had come from.
"No, I'm not the leader. I'm just a medicine cat's apprentice. Although... I am lacking a mentor..." she trailed off before the emotion of her dead mentor could hit her.
"Medicine cats cannot become leaders," she changed the subject. "Only warriors. Jaystar is Windclan's leader. He's not in camp right now, but when he gets back, I'm sure he'd like to meet you," she continued explaining.

"Oh..." Moontears replied, taking in the strange ways of these clan cats. "In the tribe, the only...what did you call them? Medicine cats? The only cat that knows anything about herbs is our leader. It's one of the many reasons I was an outcast there." he said with a sigh.
Phoenixpaw ran into the den with her ferns just as Pantherfang slowly stalked out with a bundle of the herbs that Whitepaw had just asked for. Moontears noticed how the tom towered over him as he approached and set down the herbs without a word and then went back to mourning his family. "It seems I have come at a terrible time..." Moontears sighed. "I am sorry to burden you like this with my unexpected arrival..."

"No, that is the exact opposite. I recieved a vision from Starclan that a cat would arrive from far away to finish my training," Whitepaw said, her tail fluffing out as her excitement grew. Shadowstar was right! Someone to teach her. She had been without a mentor for over a week. She took the herbs from Pantherfang with a nod of thanks.
"I'll bring something by for you later, Pantherfang," she said, her eyes reflecting his sorrow. She wanted to help ease his pain, as was the natural instinct of any medicine cat. Perhaps she had been born for this. Perhaps it wasn't just a fluke that she ended up traveling from Lostclan to Windclan with the herblore she knew, and to have it aid Windclan in its time of need.

(It's funny that both of Windclan's medicine cats aren't Windclan born!)
Moontears twitched his whiskers in amusement. "Me, train you? Maybe if we were in the mountains....I feel so displaced here, but at the same time, it seems somewhat familiar." the tom shook his head in confusion. "It's just a lot to take in." he confessed. The word 'starclan' kept echoing around in the tom's head. Were those the unfamiliar cats that had visited him in the mountains in place of the Tribe ancestors?

Whitepaw's brow furrowed as she took in his words, and she concentrated on chewing up the marigold, spitting it out, and rubbing it gently into the worst of Moontears' wounds first. She licked the fur around his wounds clean, her nose wrinkling in discomfort at the taste of blood. Then she wrapped the wounds in cobweb.
She took a look at his feet, noting his cracked pads. Her blue eyes narrowed.
"I'm sorry... I'm not sure what to do about cracked pads..." her teeth grit in frustration. Why had her mentor had to die so soon after Whitepaw's ceremony? She had barely any time with (Aw gee I forgot her name. xD)her, and that little wasn't enough to learn much. She knew how to dress wounds and keep infections out, and what herbs to give for pain and to soothe. But in Lostclan, Kyri taught her on a need-to-know basis, teaching her through experience. But the toms of Lostclan cared little for things like bellyaches and coughs, treating them with a 'suck-it-up-and-deal-with-it' attitude.
She glanced towards her den where Sunstorm lay. She also didn't know what to do for broken bones.

Moontears studied a paw and set it down gingerly. He gazed at the young white she-cat in thanks, but could sense her frustration. "In the mountains, there's a vine that can grow on most anything. It's got an oily base to it. Maybe it grows around here too. It has three leaves on it...sound familiar?" he asked. "But it's not a pressing matter." he added quickly. He was eager to see how these clan cats' treatments worked on his body. "We use a lot of different mosses in the mountains, they grow on the rocks." he explained.
(Poison Ivy is good and Basil too I guess lol)

Whitepaw thought about the description of the plant a bit. Her eyes lit up as she did recognize it.
"I saw some of that in Ripplewhisker's stores!" (I remember now, lol)She mewed excitedly, and raced off to retrieve it. She brought it back quickly. She listened to the rest of what he said while she applied to leaves to his paw. (I dunno if they ever explained how to use poison ivy on paw pads. xD)
"We don't get too much moss around her..." she commented.
